How to Get to the Mezquita
The Mezquita-Córdoba is located in the heart of the historic old town at Calle Cardenal Herrero, 1. From Córdoba train station the best options are a taxi (6–8 minutes, €8–10) or walking (20–25 minutes through the park and old town). Bus line 3 also connects the station to the Puerta del Puente stop, a 3-minute walk from the entrance. Do not attempt to drive into the old town — the area around the Mezquita is pedestrianised with restricted vehicle access.
The Mezquita is easy to reach from anywhere in the city. Córdoba’s compact historic centre means most approaches converge naturally on the monument — the Bell Tower is visible from much of the old town, and the Guadalquivir River serves as a natural southern boundary to orient yourself. This guide covers every option from the train station, the bus station, and the surrounding streets.
The Mezquita’s Address and Entrance
Address: Calle Cardenal Herrero, 1, 14003 Córdoba
The main paid visitor entrance is the Puerta de los Deanes on Calle Torrijos. The Patio de San Eulogio ticket office and the online check-in entrance are on the north side of the building. The Patio de los Naranjos (Orange Tree Courtyard) is accessible from Calle Cardenal Herrero and is free to enter at any time.
The nearest bus stop is Puerta del Puente, approximately 3 minutes’ walk from the entrance. The nearest taxi stop is the Conjunto Monumental Mezquita-Catedral on Calle Torrijos.
From Córdoba Train Station
Córdoba’s main train station (Córdoba Central) is approximately 2 km north of the Mezquita — a manageable distance with several transport options.
By Taxi (Recommended for Day-Trippers)
A taxi from Córdoba station to the Mezquita takes 6–8 minutes and costs approximately €8–10. Taxis queue outside the main station exit. This is the most efficient option if you are on a tight schedule or visiting in summer heat. For the return journey, the nearest taxi stop to the Mezquita is on Calle Torrijos.
By Bus — Line 3
Bus line 3 connects the train and bus stations to the Mezquita area. Buses depart from the west side of the station complex (Renfe-Est. Buses Oeste stop). The journey takes approximately 10–12 minutes to the San Fernando stop, from which it is around a 5-minute walk to the Mezquita. The fare is €1.30 per journey, paid to the driver. Line 3 runs approximately every 12–15 minutes on weekdays and every 15–20 minutes at weekends.
For the return journey, take line 3 from the Puerta del Puente stop (on the riverside, between the Mezquita and the Roman Bridge) back towards the station. The direction is “José Aguilar De Dios.”
Line 12 also passes the Puerta del Puente stop and is a useful alternative for the return leg.
On Foot (Pleasant, 20–25 Minutes)
Walking from the train station to the Mezquita is a genuinely pleasant route when temperatures are reasonable. Head south from the station through the Jardines de Victoria (a long linear park that takes you most of the way), then enter the old town and follow the signs towards the Mezquita. The final stretch through the narrow lanes of the historic centre is one of the most attractive walks in Córdoba.
Total walking time: approximately 20–25 minutes at a relaxed pace. In summer, the park section is exposed — plan accordingly.
A useful tip from experienced visitors: in the old town, Google Maps can struggle with the narrow, winding streets. Download an offline map or use a physical city map from the tourist information desk at the station.
From Córdoba Bus Station
The bus station is immediately next to the train station. All transport options above (taxi, bus line 3, walking) apply identically from the bus station.
From Within the City Centre
The Mezquita is easy to reach on foot from anywhere in Córdoba’s historic centre. Distances from nearby landmarks:
- Jewish Quarter (Judería): 2–5 minutes on foot — the Mezquita is immediately adjacent
- Roman Bridge (south end): 5 minutes on foot, walking north across the bridge
- Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos: 5 minutes on foot, heading east
- Plaza de las Tendillas (city centre): 10–12 minutes on foot heading south through the old town
By Car — Important Notice
Do not attempt to drive to the Mezquita entrance. The area around the monument is a pedestrianised zone with restricted vehicle access, CCTV-monitored no-entry streets, and extremely limited parking. The narrow one-way streets of the historic centre are designed to discourage driving and make it genuinely difficult to reach the monument by car.
If you are arriving in Córdoba by car, the practical approach is to park on the edge of the historic centre or in the newer parts of town and walk the rest of the way. Useful parking options include:
- Parking Córdoba (Calle Conde Robledo, 6) — 11 minutes’ walk from the Mezquita
- Parking La Mezquita (Calle Cairuán, 1 / Avenida del Doctor Fleming) — the closest dedicated car park, approximately 5–7 minutes’ walk
- Saba Estación Tren Córdoba (Calle Arqueólogo García y Bellido) — at the train station, 25 minutes’ walk or short taxi/bus to the Mezquita
Parking costs in central Córdoba run approximately €2–3 per hour, with daily maximums of €15–20. Free parking is not available close to the monument. Our dedicated parking guide covers all nearby car parks in detail.
Accessibility
The Mezquita is generally accessible for visitors with reduced mobility. The main entrance and much of the interior are on a single level with no steps. Adapted toilets are available. Wheelchairs are available to borrow at the entrance.
Note that the Bell Tower is not accessible for visitors with reduced mobility — the climb involves narrow stairs with a high number of relatively tall steps, and the operator reserves the right to refuse access for safety reasons.
Getting to Córdoba from Other Cities
If you are travelling to Córdoba from another Andalusian city to visit the Mezquita, the train is the fastest and most convenient option for most routes:
- From Seville: AVE high-speed train, approximately 42 minutes, from €7. Trains run frequently throughout the day from Seville Santa Justa station.
- From Madrid: AVE, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Madrid Puerta de Atocha.
- From Málaga: Approximately 1 hour by train; bus connections also available.
- From Granada: Approximately 2 hours by bus (no direct high-speed train); some regional train connections with a change.
Tickets for all Spanish rail journeys can be booked on the Renfe website (renfe.com) or through the Trainline app. For day-trippers who prefer not to manage transport independently, see our guides to day trips from Seville, Málaga, and Granada.
